A newly released collaboration between PRODn Casting and Models.com has named Jamaica as a must-visit location for scouts.
The website reads:
Models.com and the casting division at Prod’n went south to take stock of Jamaica’s new wave of models ready for the runways from current in-demand newcomers like Kai Newman and Tami Williams to freshly discovered faces ready for their international debuts. Putting the vacation destination aside, scouting in the tropics should be at the top of the industry’s to-do list. Their destination island-homeland isn’t the only thing brimming with natural beauty: easygoing with permanently unbuttoned attitudes, the promising new class from Jamaica is unmistakably distinct. These models bring a much-needed piquant to the phrase easy on the eye. Check them out below.
The models showcased are all represented by Saint International Jamaica and most have representation in either Paris or New York as well. The list begins with Tami Williams who has appeared in American Vogue several times and is a regular on the show circuit.
Photography is by Kait Robinson and Larissa Gunn, film by Kait Robinson, concept & casting by Larissa Gunn. See the full project here.

Rising star Issa Lish chatted with Style.com about her career, her passions, and the role of Mexico in the modelling industry.
I was born and raised in Mexico City, but my dad is 100 percent Japanese. So I’m half-Japanese, half-Mexican.
I think people have this very literal idea of what Mexico is, based on what they’ve been taught. People assume we’re all short and, like, we live in the sand with donkeys. It’s a complete stereotype, but people still believe it and it affects things like scouting. People don’t bother to scout there because they think like, “Oh, it’s not a country where tall women are.” Meanwhile, there are so many beautiful people in Mexico.
On the high points of modelling:
It’s no one thing, it’s more like where I was a year ago to where I am now, more of a combination of all the work that has allowed me to slowly build something for myself. I’m actually able to live off working as a model, so I would say that’s the highlight of my career. Getting to the point where I am now has been such an experience.

The Business of Fashion talks to business people representing six emerging fashion markets: Brazil, Russia, Nigeria, China, the Middle East, and India.
Of Brazil, Robb Young writes,
The success of this latest venture saw Mendes receive solicitations for representation from other fashion, style and lifestyle personalities, which in turn prompted her to open a talent division to nurture new local spokespersons. It is this component, she says, which is increasingly important for most marketing strategies in the Brazilian market today.

Vogue Mexico is the third international edition of Vogue Magazine to violate Vogue's June 2012 Health Initiative.
15 year old model Julie Borawska's appearance in the November issue of Vogue Mexico has been brought to the attention of fashion blogs and is the third official age violation of Vogue's Health Initiatve. The year and a half old pledge pledged to no longer hire models under the age of 16.
The first violation was committed by Vogue China with an August 2012 editorial featuring Ondria Hardin. September saw Vogue Italia publish an editorial featuring Sarah Kees. Around the same time, Thairine Garcia was hired by Vogue Japan but the editorial was never run.
According to Kelly Talamas, Vogue Mexico EIC, the magazine purchased the images from photographer Kevin Sinclair, and had no role int he casting or production. Sinclair has stated:
I was not aware the model was 15 years of age. When we communicated with her agency in Poland they never mentioned that she was so young. We were all under the impression that she was 18 years or older, not 15.
But a simple Google search from Vogue Mexico or Sinclair would have shown her age. Fashionista.com points out that her Fashion Model Directory profile, Instagram, thread at The Fashion Spot, and Gaga Models' (her agency) website all list her age as 15.
Seems like a pretty weak excuse from Sinclair and Vogue.
